The Wall Street Journal reports that cord-cutters accustomed to watching shows online are often shocked that $20 "rabbit ears" pluck signals from the air. Is this legal? “I was just kind of surprised that this is technology that exists,” says Dan Sisco, 28 years old. “It’s been awesome. It doesn’t log out and it doesn’t skip.” WSJ subscribers can read the full story here.

BAAAA HAAAA! Good idea! Seems that We the media are spreading Fake News so much that we fail to focus on reality.
Actually, My son complained to me that he wished he could see “regular” TV without paying for it. He streamed Netflix and Hulu. I took a paperclip, as an antenna, and presto! Free TV. But he complained that he could not stop it, record it, back it up….etc. So? buy an OTA DVR!!

Broadcasters could tell their viewers that OTA is possible – but then they’d have to be broadcasters and not the glorified cablecasters they are…

The majority of broadcasters, for obvious reasons, have been terrible at promoting antenna use (on the other hand, engineers are happy and proud when they hear that their OTA signals are being picked up, especially from far away). However, I firmly believe the day will come when broadcasters of all classes will have to no choice but promote it. For now, maybe a way to accelerate the process is by letting kids think it’s illegal to pick up free TV with an antenna. They won’t be able to resist the challenge.

I may just drop Spectrum (formerly Bright House) and go free TV too. It wasn’t too long ago that the Broadcast Fee on the cable was $2.00. Then it doubled to $4.00. The current fee is $6.05 and starting next month it will be $7.50. They are also raising the Modem Fee and the Digital Adapter Fee (I have a analog TV) too next month. This is too much!

…you do realize it’s broadcast that raising the those broadcast fees, not cable, right?

(Part 2) The only commercial diginets that Spectrum carries are Get TV, Cozi TV, Antenna TV, This TV, Decades, Me TV, and Laff. There are plenty more in my market that are not on the cable including H&I, Escape, Grit, Bounce, Movies!, and others. I can probably get better choices by dumping the cable.

Broadcasters won’t promote OTA for fear of offending the retrans cash cow. The largest OTA advertiser here is Spectrum. Mention promoting OTA to Sales and the GM gets you shunned.
