Dish’s Sub Losses Continue To Mount

Dish reports that it lost 196,000 net video subscribers in the second quarter, the continuation of a downward trend for the satcaster, and the pay TV industry as a whole. The satellite TV service lost fewer subs in this year’s second quarter compared to last year’s second quarter when it dropped 281,000 customers. However, Dish lost just 81,000 subscribers in the 2015 second quarter.

NBC: Media Should Focus On Delayed Viewing

Univision’s 2Q Revenue Dips 4%

Spanish-language media giant Univision Communications, which has reportedly been wooed by media magnate John Malone as it mulls an IPO, has reported a 4% dip in second quarter 2017 revenue of $764.9 million compared to $800.3 million in the same time frame last year. Its net income or profit for the second quarter ending June 30 rose 5% to $106 million compared to $74.7 million for the same period in 2016.

Tonia O’Connor, Univision’s newly appointed CRO, says some of the former Gawker verticals, now called Gizmodo Media, will get shows on Fusion TV. “What we’re really focused on is the magic that can happen when you take digital audiences and convert them to television,” she says. Vice, BuzzFeed and Vox Media are pushing into TV.
