A legal battle is in the forecast for two local television stations. Gray Media Group, the parent company of KMOV, filed suit last week against competitor Tegna’s KSDK, arguing it had violated a trademark by debuting a new weather brand featuring the phrase “Weather First Alert” just two months after KMOV began using “First Alert Weather” in its coverage of severe weather.

Independent media agency Known has been named media AOR for the CW Network, part of Nextstar Media Group. The appointment came without a formal review although the agency essentially auditioned for the role after piloting several campaigns on a project basis earlier this year. The timing is aligned to the CW’s new slate of programming which includes an increasing amount of sports, including ACC football and basketball, Inside The NFL, LIV Golf and more.

WSEE, and its sister station, WICU, branded together as Erie News Now, took the top two spots in the news ratings for the 11 p.m. news. Scott MacDowell, Erie News Now’s news director, says it’s been more than 10 years since either station has been the top-rated news station at that time.
AMC Networks said today it named Georgia Juvelis chief communications officer, a new position at the company. In her new role, she will add oversight of publicity, talent relations and awards to her portfolio, which already included corporate communications, internal communications, corporate marketing and government affairs.
