I’d be interested to know how cybersecurity has impacted, if any, the ability of broadcasters to listen to ideas from outside voices (viewers, potential vendors, prospective clients, etc.). With fewer and fewer stations having staff to field phone calls, and voice mails becoming passe, emails are, by far, the most frequent communication medium, which of course, is also the most vulnerable to phishing, disinformation, and all sorts of malfeasance. etc. In other words, how do you keep the good info flowing, if you don’t understand what is harmless and what is malicious? Is it just updated software, consistent staff training, and/or luck of the draw? If you don’t know the sender, don’t open seems too broad and limits the healthy flow of ideas. And what role do non-cybersecurity threats (i.e.just plain lack of email etiquette) play in the disruption? Just the volume of “legitimate” pitches via mass emails, etc. can be overwhelming and inhibit workflow. Not the forum for this, I realize, but it’s one reason I hope to attend the conference at NAB NYC. Good stuff!
