This is something we don’t see often — reruns of an ongoing broadcast series airing concurrently on another broadcast network in primetime. Under a deal with Lionsgate, the CW has acquired the five existing seasons of ABC’s comedy series The Conners. Back-to-back repeats of the Roseanne spinoff will air Thursdays at 8:30-9:30 p.m., flanked by original episodes of Canadian comedy imports Son of a Critch at 8 and Children Ruin Everything at 9:30. The Conners, which airs Wednesdays on ABC, will begin its CW run Jan. 4 at 8:30 p.m. with the series’ first two episodes.
WOOD Grand Rapids, Mich.; KELO Sioux Falls, S.D.; and WMBB Panama City, Fla., will carry CW’s primetime entertainment and live sports programming, on subchannels.
Starting in 2024, The CW will add movies to its lineup on Sunday nights. The first will be The Wedding Planner, starring Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey, which will premiere on the network Jan. 7. Movies are a new piece of The CW’s midseason schedule, which will also include Season 3 of Son of a Critch and the debut of the I Am docuseries.
Viewership for the fourth Republican debate fell since the last event, drawing more than 4 million for Nexstar’s NewsNation and its simulcast on The CW. But it was a record night for NewsNation, which drew 1.6 million viewers for its debate coverage, the largest audience in its history, according to Nielsen’s early fast national numbers. Two acquired series have gotten the ax at The CW. Canadian comedy Run The Burbs and British sitcom Everyone Else Burns have both been pulled from the schedule, the network has confirmed. They’ll be replaced for now with reruns of Whose Line Is It Anyway? and The Great American Joke Off. The news of Everyone Else Burns comes just a few weeks after The CW ordered a second season of the critically acclaimed apocalyptic family comedy following Channel 4’s renewal of the U.K. series in August.
The move, on Jan. 1, 2024, spells the end not only of national Spanish-language programming but also the region’s lone, locally produced TV newscast in Spanish.
The CW will become the official broadcast home of WWE NXT in a new five deal that will see the showcase for WWE’s up-and-coming stars move from USA Network in October of 2024. The networks will air 52 live weekly events throughout the season, making NXT the latest addition to the CW’s growing roster of live sports, including ACC football and basketball games airing Saturdays throughout the season, and LIV Golf.

The CW has picked up a second season of U.K. comedy Everyone Else Burns ahead of the show’s first season debuting on the U.S. broadcaster. Part of the CW’s acquisition-heavy fall slate, a programming lineup set by new owner Nexstar to avoid impacts of the now-ended writers strike and ongoing actors strike, Everyone Else Burns Season 1 originally aired on Channel 4 in the U.K. in January. It will premiere Thursday at 9:30 p.m. on the CW.

Independent media agency Known has been named media AOR for the CW Network, part of Nextstar Media Group. The appointment came without a formal review although the agency essentially auditioned for the role after piloting several campaigns on a project basis earlier this year. The timing is aligned to the CW’s new slate of programming which includes an increasing amount of sports, including ACC football and basketball, Inside The NFL, LIV Golf and more.

The CW Network and Sinclair Broadcast Group today announced a multi-year deal that renews affiliations across 35 markets, including 10 markets in which Sinclair provides sales and other services to a CW-affiliated station. In addition, beginning September 1, Sinclair will launch The CW on two new affiliate stations, KOMO, in Seattle, Washington, and WPNT, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Both stations currently broadcast LIV Golf and will expand carriage to include the entire CW Programming offering. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Nexstar Media Group, Inc. today announced that KAUT-TV, one of the company’s owned and operated television stations serving Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, will become an affiliate of The CW Network on September 1, 2023. KAUT-TV will begin carrying The CW’s primetime entertainment and live sports programming at that time.

The CW has pushed back the premiere date for the anticipated eco-thriller series The Swarm, based on Frank Schätzing’s bestelling novel, from Game of Thrones exec producer Frank Doelger. The series now will premiere Sept. 12 at 9 p.m. ET, a week later than its initial Sept. 5 date.
The exec, who joined the Nexstar-owned network in 2022, is now engaged through 2027.
